ALLEGANY The rural landscape of Allegany County carried a bond with the local residents that the State of New York could not break, even as events culminated in a violent confrontation with State Troopers on a country road near Caneadea. These photos were taken at the time of the controversy on candidate areas of a proposed siting of a radioactive waste disposal facility which the State finally abandoned due to the intensity of local opposition.
